Essential Information (module 1) is one of the Getting Started modules.

You’ll learn about our history and the fundamentals of Scouts, get an overview of how we keep people safe, and how we make sure everyone is welcome.

You’ll also learn about our training scheme, our structure and the support available to you.

The issues facing adult volunteers in keeping young people safe are changing all the time and it is essential that we provide up-to-date training.

It is a requirement for all adults in Scouting to have undertaken ‘approved safeguarding training’ at least every three years and this is monitored at the point of appointment review.

You’ll learn about your responsibilities for keeping young people and adults safe, what to do in an emergency and how to report incidents.

Doing things safely is fundamental to everything we do in Scouting. The Safety training ensures that you understand your responsibilities for keeping everyone in Scouts safe and how to assess and manage risk.

This applies to those people required to complete ongoing safety training (all those subject to an appointment review). Essentially, this means anyone who holds an appointment except for Scout Active Support Members and Executive Committee Members. This should be completed least every three years and this is monitored at the point of appointment review.

ALL ROLES

GDPR Training is a mandatory module for all appointments. It covers the basic information that individual’s need to know in relation to the General Data Protection Regulations, what this means for their role and for Scouting and how to effectively align with it.

You’ll learn how the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) applies to your role, how to treat Personal Data and what are the Individuals’ rights.

You’ll also learn about requesting consent, and the measures taken locally to make sure we’re aligned with GDPR.

TRUSTEES / EXECUTIVE MEMBERS

These courses are held for all those new to executive committee roles in Scouting in Epsom & Ewell.

Module 1 is for all Leaders in Scouting. Executive Committee members now have to do Module 1EX.

You’ll learn about Executive Committees, our key policies, roles and responsibilities.  

LEADERSHIP ROLES

This course is for all those working directly within sections (whether Section Leader or Sectional Assistant).

You’ll learn about the roles in your section, and how we use activities and games at Scouts. 

You’ll also learn about Youth Shaped Scouting, and get some tips on promoting positive behaviour.
